Paving the Way for Women in Tech

The tech landscape is changing in Wales, and Vindico is proud to be ahead of the curve

The number of women working in tech is on the rise – and Vindico developer, Emilie, is proud to be setting the example in Wales.

From working her way up from a supervisor to playing a key role in the development of some of Vindico’s cutting-edge tech solutions, Emilie talks about her tech journey so far and why she’s encouraging other women to follow their tech ambitions.

Vindico: How did you land your job with us?

Emilie: I was working as a ticketing supervisor at Scarlets Rugby, who are a client of Vindico’s, so I was already working alongside the team and knew a lot about their offering and their renowned #ThinkPurple vibe.

Vindico: What does your role as a developer involve?

Emilie: I’m part of Vindico’s team that includes some incredibly skilled developers who help me learn and hone my skills every day. We work together to build and deliver Vindico’s apps, and the tailored features that go with those apps.

Vindico: What’s the best part of your job as a developer?

Emilie: The best part about being a developer at Vindico is definitely the people. Don’t get me wrong, I love the work, but knowing I get to work with such a great bunch of people every day makes it that much easier to get up in the morning!

My biggest project so far has been working on a version of SWAPP for A&R Services. SWAPP is Vindico’s own Smart Workplace Application, which is helping businesses to enhance efficiency, safety, and wellbeing – and it’s really taken off since the pandemic ended. We’re now developing tailored technologies and features that enhance this base platform for our clients – and this one for A&R Services has been an amazing project to work on.

It has definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but I have learned so much from the project, and it certainly feels like a great achievement to now see the app being used.

Vindico: How have we helped you develop? (No pressure here!)

Emilie: Without the support of Vindico I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am today. I didn’t have a lot of experience prior to joining the team – I just knew that tech was something I wanted to pursue.

Vindico has given me opportunity after opportunity to gain invaluable experience, pushing me to better my skills while also having created a safe space to ask for advice whenever is needed.

My current goal is to continue developing my skills as a developer – I want to be the best I can be!

Vindico: What does it mean to you to be part of the team?

Emilie: It means so much to be a part of Vindico. In my previous role I worked alongside Vindico and knew a lot of the staff. I was always an admirer of the company’s #ThinkPurple culture and being part of the team has gone way beyond my expectations!

Vindico: How does it feel to be paving the way for other women in tech?

Emilie: Being a female developer in the field, I do feel a sense of responsibility to lead by example. I hope that there are plenty more females out there who see the opportunities and want to join me.

Vindico: What advice would you give to women wanting to enter the industry?

My advice would be just to go for it! There are plenty of opportunities out there and there really is no boundaries – so follow your dream.

We’re currently hiring for developers. It would be great to see some more females join our dev team and see how much they can thrive in our #ThinkPurple culture.

Vindico are currently on the lookout for star talent to join our team. We’ve got openings for front end and backend developers – and if you think you’ve got what it takes, we’d love to hear from you. You can find out more here.
